The Spirit of Amsterdam is a 3-day urban festival for the young spirit, taking place in 40+ Amsterdam houses of worship during the celebration 750 years of Amsterdam. The Spirit brings together a mix of music, art, culture and rituals. Each program contributes to a brighter city. A city with more attention and time for each other.
The Spirit of Amsterdam will take place on November 22, 23 and 24, 2024 in Amsterdam, as part of the celebration 750 years of Amsterdam. After 2024, we will expand.
The Spirit hopes that doing something good for another, being quiet once in a while, turning off your phone and visiting houses of worship will become more normal for more people. We do this by bringing different worldviews together and creating positive change.
We target a broad audience of people who are open to positive change and connection with the unknown. But people who have nothing to do with meaning are very welcome. We describe our target audience as "the young mind. Our 'VIPS' are the most vulnerable of the city, at least 10% of all tickets are reserved for People who often have to 'miss the party' such as homeless people and people with little money.
No. The festival has no religious objectives. Participants and visitors alike can be inspired by rituals and traditions. There are countless beautiful examples throughout our society that were created by religious influences, such as weddings, a minute's silence to commemorate, getting involved for the vulnerable or lighting a candle for someone you are thinking about.
We want to make all venues accessible to people with physical challenges. However, because we work in historic buildings, there may be limitations. With our accessibility icons on the website, you will soon be able to see how accessibility is arranged for each event.
The festival The Spirit of Amsterdam was initiated by Robert-Jan Glas, Stefan Beek, and San Jonker. This team has a background in the social field, events, culture and media. The Spirit of Amsterdam is set up as a social enterprise in collaboration with the 10,000 HOURS Foundation.
Most programs are in Dutch. Some programs are in English. Much programming you can attend without mastering a specific language. We are working on an English version of the website in the coming weeks.
