The film Doulas of the City, made during the lockdown, follows Adelheid Roosen's admiration for women who go deep into their city's neighborhoods and streets to help others. With keen senses, these doulas - those who guide you - battle poverty, loneliness, domestic violence, crime and more. They see the injustice, feel the sadness and hear the violence in the silences. This documentary won several awards worldwide, including "Best Lockdown Film" at the Bettiah International Film Festival in India, 2021.
Doulas of the City reveals the invisible network of women who hold the community together in Amsterdam. During this evening, parts of the film will be shown and you will meet some of these extraordinary women. We will engage in conversation and explore through speed dates questions such as: Who is the mother of the family, the street, the city, the country and the world? What does "mother" mean, what does she stand for, and how does motherhood live in all of us?
Come to this unique evening and get to know the city of Amsterdam in a different way.
