How immigrant languages enrich Amsterdam

This program offers an in-depth exploration of the role language plays in the history of Jewish and other immigrants in Amsterdam. The focus is on how immigrant languages, including Yiddish, have enriched the Dutch language and connected it to different cultures. The program offers a mix of education, culture and creativity, inviting participants to participate in both educational and interactive activities.

PROGRAM

Justus van de Kamp: Speaker on Yiddish and the Dutch language. Justus is a linguist who studies the connection between historical language movements and contemporary communication.

Hans Wallage: Speaker on Jewish integration and immigration. Hans Wallage is a researcher and policy advisor and holds a doctorate from the University of Amsterdam in the field of Jewish history, and he still lectures and teaches workshops on the subject as a lecturer.

Mirjam van Dam: Jazz singer who brings 'narrative music performances'. Mirjam is a passionate musician who keeps the rich traditions of Yiddish music alive and brings them to the stage with heart and soul. Listen to her music here: Spotify
