TheaterMusic

Travel by voice and breath through cultural traditions.

Experience an afternoon of choral music that takes you on a journey through various cultural contexts and Christian traditions in Amsterdam. From the mystical sounds of the Coptic Orthodox Church to the modern poetry of Oosterhuis, from the deep voices of the Church Slavonic tradition to the warm sounds of Surinamese hymns. Each choir will take you into their unique world for 15 minutes.

Between performances, the rich stories of these Amsterdam choirs and their churches are revealed. The dedication, traditions and special (immigrant) history that fuel their music will be revealed. In addition, we invite you to explore your own spiritual intuition by breathing and singing together.

Churches and their choirs have a special place in the history and culture of Amsterdam. Today they are hidden treasures. Discover them during The Spirit of Amsterdam. Breathing and singing, you will be encouraged to let loose, but also to find peace. So we can catch our breath together.
