The opening ceremony is a journey of discovery with stories, rituals, music, light art and silence. It is the basis for a new narrative; a future dream for a struggling, just and kind city; the story of a New Amsterdam.
We want to (re)live the dream of an animated Amsterdam. Our hold is water, which will flow through the church in different ways. Our "pastor" is a Nina, a young woman of color. Wasim, the voice of Aleppo will reverberate through the hall. We will hoist a gong nearly two meters into the air. The wind is carried by a Kurdish flute player. And there is a Moroccan-Jewish word artist who can tell crushing stories. Our "VIPs" are poor people and homeless people.
