Storytelling

The alderman in the pulpit!

An inspiring Sermon of the Leek with Marjolein Moorman and music by Wasim Arslan

On Nov. 24, Marjolein Moorman, Alderman for Education, Poverty and Integration in Amsterdam, shares her personal story during the Preek van de Leek in the Singelkerk. The Preek van de Leek provides a platform for influential Dutch people without a religious background to share their views on social issues such as justice, solidarity and compassion. Moorman will speak about her professional and personal journey, intertwined with the ideals that touch her deeply: equity of opportunity, inclusiveness, and the power of compassion in building a just society.

This afternoon will be made extra special by the musical accompaniment of Wasim Arslan, a singer and songwriter from Aleppo, Syria. With his soulful voice and poetic lyrics, Arslan brings a message of unity and freedom, with music ranging from ballads to dance. His stories of passion, hope and liberation are a moving addition to Moorman's message, reinforcing the themes of connection and solidarity.
