Queen of spades

TheaterMusic

An ode to the powerful women who broke free from their fate and fought for their freedom.

In Schoppenvrouw, performer, harpist, singer and playwright Ekaterina Levental takes you into a deeply personal story about identity, fear and freedom. Over thirty years ago, Ekaterina fled with her family from Tashkent, Uzbekistan to the Netherlands. Now she is a leading artist, breaking boundaries between art forms and telling stories that touch audiences at their core.

Queen of Spades is a play with identities. It is an ode to the powerful women who broke free from their destiny, who fought the freedom that also held them captive again in the legend of their success. The performance is about the constant struggle between man and his story, and the fear that keeps hindering the freedom to change. It is an invitation to escape the scrapbook of our lives, our stories, and the expectations that limit us.

With humor and honesty, Ekaterina shares her own experiences, intertwined with larger themes of courage, transformation and overcoming fears. Queen of Spades invites you to reflect on your own choices and the power of change while enjoying a story that is both intimate and universal.
