The Road to Universe - Western Mosque
During The Spirit of Amsterdam, the Westermosque invites you on a special journey through the universe. Through light art, sounds of the ney and visual art, the mosque offers an experience where cosmos and spirituality come together. This program is an invitation to everyone to pause, experience connection and discover new perspectives.
The Path
The journey begins on an atmospherically lit path that leads visitors step by step to the impressive dome of the mosque. Along this path are verses from the Qur'an that reflect on the origins and grandeur of the universe. These verses invite one to contemplate the mysteries and wonders of the cosmos, encouraging visitors to take a moment to escape the everyday hustle and bustle and open up to the bigger picture.
Projection of the Universe
A visual spectacle awaits visitors in the heart of the West Mosque. The West Mosque is exhibiting a light art projection of the universe, inspired by conversations with visitors and the infinity of the cosmos. This projection in the dome invites visitors to look up, admire the vastness of the universe and be drawn into thoughts about our place in the bigger picture.
Exhibition of Islamic philography with live ney music
The journey ends at an intimate exhibition of Islamic philography, an art form originating in the Middle East. The delicate threads and geometric patterns reflect the structure and harmony of the universe. Throughout the exhibition, visitors are accompanied by the serene sounds of the ney. This soothing music enhances the spiritual ambiance of the space and invites contemplation, bringing the artworks to life even more powerfully and adding a deeper dimension to the experience.
