Basilica of St. Nicholas

The Basilica of St. Nicholas (Sint-Nicolaaskerk) is a Roman Catholic church in downtown Amsterdam. The church, officially called Saint Nicholas within the Veste, was built in the period 1884-1887 to a design by architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912). Saint Nicholas Basilica is the third church in Amsterdam dedicated to Nicolas of Myra. The first, the current Oude Kerk, went with the Reformation during the Alteration in 1578. The second was a Roman Catholic hideaway church on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, now best known as "Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder.
