Ruigoord

The church has always been the spiritual center of the original farming village. Conditions are no longer the same, the population has changed dramatically, but the church is still the nerve center and meeting place of Ruigoord. The cultural activities of the village are presented in and around the church. In the nearly 50-year history of the church as the spiritual center of the cultural haven, a lot has passed in that building. It was (and still is) exhibition space, auditorium, concert hall, polling place, party room, wedding and mourning location, workshop, café/restaurant, meeting room, laboratory and hotbed for many kinds of Ruigoord activities and events. The circa 1880 building has weathered many storms and is now somewhat in need of refurbishment. In the year 2021 a restoration of the masonry and other preservation work has begun, so that Ruigoord's most striking building will be able to last at least until the current Ruigoord turns 100 years old in 2073.
